California Institute of Technology recently developed a new solar xps m1330 battery , whose basic principle is that the thin silicon line array embedded in the polymer substrate. In addition to thin flexible things, its absorption of sunlight and the photoelectric conversion efficiency have made significant breakthroughs. In addition, traditional solar cells required for the amount of expensive semiconductor material ,compared to traditional solar cells ,this new type of solar cells need only a small part.
Applied physics and materials science professor Harry Atwater and Howard Hughes, said: “These solar cells (take the inspiron e1505 battery for example )broken through the traditional materials of light absorption to capture the limit for the first time.” New type of silicon used solar cell arrays on a single line of the incident light wavelength, the absorption rate is up to 96% ,for the full wavelength to capture the sun can reach 85%.
Atwater said: “A lot of the materials is able y to capture light very well, but it can not be converted into electrical energy, such as black paint. For the solar inspiron 1520 battery , the absorbed photon is converted to electrical load can the child (charge carrier) is also very important.” and their R & D line array of silicon solar cells can be absorbed by the photon 90-100% converted to electronic. Technically, this array has a near-perfect internal quantum efficiency (internal quantum efficiency).
Atwater concluded: “The high light absorption and better conversion of competence achieved this high-quality solar cell for np-100 .”
Length of Silicon wire arrays in silicon line is 30 to 100 microns (micron) between the diameter of only 1 micron. The thickness of the entire array is equivalent to the length of the silicon lines, but from the corner of the area or volume of view, only 2% of this material is silicon, the other 98% of all polymers. As silicon is very expensive ingredients in the traditional solar cells, like the compaq presario v6000 akku . so this will be much lower, which only require1 / 50 traditional amount of the the cost of solar cell production.
